I’ll be out in San Fran in June’10 and was wondering what people out there would recommend seeing. Of course, the Golden Gate bridge, the Fisherman’s Wharf, that crooked street & Chinatown are all on my list of things to do, see & photograph but I know there’s infinitely more wonderful things to check out while I’m there-they just may not pop up on the web when i do a search. I’m wondering if you folks (especially if you’re a local) can give me suggestions to the best museums, photo op locations, markets for shopping, etc. I am sort of an artsy person who likes to see what a city has to offer as far as photography, art & architecture.. Also, any suggestion as to areas/hotels that are centrally located to a lot of these things & still reasonable would b great. Ps-lemme just add that I’m really not interested in anything sports-related and usually can find myself a good bar with a blindfold on & 2 hands tied behind my back! ha ha..

Look up the Gallery Guide before you leave home. The galleries in 49 Geary are interesting and free. CameraWorks on Mission St. is $3.00 (or is it $5?) donation per visitor. You should enjoy it because of the quality of the images of the local group of photographers (some very well known) who display their photos support this gallery.
Out at Ocean Beach: Go to the Cliff House, Sutro Baths at the end of Pt. Lobos and The Great Highway. Sutro Park and Lands End area should not be missed. The camera obscura is not usually open when I’ve been there but you might be lucky. It’s on the deck behind the Cliff House Restaurant.
Go up to Twin Peaks and bring your camera for a great view overlooking the city & east bay.
Seal Rock Inn is near those places and the #38 Geary bus is a good run that will take you elsewhere (even to another bus connection). There is parking at the motel and around the area. It’s a little dated but located in a quiet residential area near the beach. Be cautious and keep an eye on your stuff - don’t leave stuff lying around that will tempt anyone. Don’t take more stuff than you can watch and hang on to (secure) when you go out on the street or on public transit. Be aware that sometimes you might need to stand and hold a bar (maybe overhead) on a crowded bus or streetcar.
Market & Powell St. for Visitor’s Information Center down the escalator and above ground, the Cable Car turnaround & MUNI kiosk to purchase any MUNI visitor’s passes — a real bargain — for the cable car, buses, or muni metro.

You might walk from the Union Square retail area along GRANT Ave. to Chinatown and at Clay, go east toward the pier and get some shots of the Transamerica Pyramid.from the outside. This is a secured building so the guard will not permit you to take any interesting photos inside the lobby.
So, in my dream it began that I was in one of my former teacher’s classrooms. He was my World History/ Civics teacher, and there was a sub. Before I know it I’m back at his house, wandering around. Around Valentine’s Day this year I met a friendly, charming and lovely girl at my university campus, at a casual social event populated with mutual friends (we were baking for a fundraiser the next day). However we exchanged contact info and added each other on Facebook, y’know, the common thing with today’s youth.
She was also single, btw, but in that phase where she thought Valentine’s Day was a bit unnecessary and proud of her single-ness. I say "phase" because she entered into a relationship with another guy not too long after, which was fine with me because even though there was attraction, I just considered her a friend. Plus I didn’t really know her anyway.
As summer rolled I started dating (casually) and she broke up with her boyfriend by the time September came about.
Now don’t get me wrong: at this point in time it wasn’t as if we were the type of friends who aren’t really friends and don’t talk to each other. To be fair, there was a period this summer where I went through a phase and stayed away from Facebook, Twitter, MSN, etc. for weeks upon weeks — and I only call/text people I hang out with… which is like 1 person aside from family. Hence the phase…. I felt like I was closer to my co-workers whom I had just met than with people I’d known for years. (That’s over now: I realize who I want to be a true friend to, and who doesn’t really want any association with me outside of school and work).
Just like the last school year, we’d talk and greet whenever we saw each other and (I, at least) would write to her on Facebook in-between those sessions, which were fairly often a week. Our conversations have been fairly earnest too, for example, her grandmother died recently and I offered my emotional support.
And you know what? She didn’t seem to notice the period I didn’t talk to her (or anyone, for that matter). She’s always friendly and honest, and cheerful. (I’m not always cheerful though, ha ha).
Although I have to admit I contacted her a lot more often, but this may be a moot point: over the years I can count on my two hands the number of times friends have contacted me via some means, just to say hi or see what’s up. For instance, my Facebook wall consists of people RESPONDING to something I initiated — I find myself making status messages that stand out, out of some crazy craving for attention. Are you telling me that out of 600 friends, less than 5% want to stay in touch — and on a once-in-a-blue-moon basis? Nearly everyone I know has at least one person who they talk to nearly EVERYDAY (and multiple times a day if they’re frequenting Facebook).
Anyway, she removed me from her Facebook friend’s list, and I know I am not over-analyzing this. People do it to me all the time, and I don’t really mind for the most part. Yeah for the VAST majority of "friends" I only contact them on birthdays and such, and I know what it is like for "friends" not to write to me so I perfectly understand why people would remove each other from friend’s list — and they’d do it also for preventing perverts: I know some girls out there figure guys just wanna admire their photos — but all that considered, I thought we weren’t like that. I actually want her in my life, because she’s one of the most genuine (and my god, the most positive) people I’ve ever met. I figured that after all my trials with personal relationships this year, I would’ve at least removed my blindfold and know when someone is just being polite or a friendly acquaintance.
I must’ve done something that irked her. Maybe she has feelings for me and is mad that I haven’t pursued her? I don’t know. If so, it is ironic… I’m not seeing anyone anymore, she isn’t either, and I feel a lot better now (relatively). Enough time has passed that she won’t be the in-between relationships (forgot what you call that). Or maybe, we weren’t really friends after all — just another pair of friendly acquaintances using Facebook as a buffer, if that. Selfish as this sounds, the point is that I want people to trust me or want to know me better…….. I’m so tired of not being met halfway. Guess I really should be asking: How do I know who really wants to be my TRUE friend?

The purpose of this video was to provide visual information to show the reality of what 185 meter wind power turbines would look like in the surrounding landscape. With the help of Google Earth, we took a tour around the area that would be most affected by the intrusion of these gigantic man made structures. While we support “green” energy alternatives, with these wind generators, we feel communities must be respectful and concerned when deciding where to place these “wind parks”. Their impact on individuals and the environment is permanent and undeniably intrusive. This same area in 2001 was deemed unsuitable for a wind park, but mysteriously now in 2009 they appear on the horizon with fresh debate. Returning home from a meeting tonight, given only one week to contemplate upon these wind power turbines, before the matter leaves the people at the mercy of bureaucracy, my wife and I felt we had to object in this manner of presenting this guided tour. The energy company had their own photo montage to present us, so this is ours. At least now, this video will speak for itself, as summer foliage is not all that is hiding the truth of the size of these gigantic monsters. Why is it always felt necessary to blindfold a victim?
