May 19:
Reader Advocate: Dr. Laura fans take issue with story on SLC eventThe soldier son of talk radio relationship counselor Laura Schlessinger is under investigation for a graphic personal Web page that one Army official has called "repulsive."
The MySpace page, publicly available until Friday when it disappeared from the Internet, included cartoon depictions of rape, murder, torture and child molestation; photographs of soldiers with guns in their mouths; a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee captioned "My Sweet Little Habib"; accounts of illicit drug use; and a blog entry headlined by a series of obscenities and racial epithets.
The site is credited to and includes many photographs of Deryk Schlessinger, the 21-year-old son of the talk radio personality known simply as Dr. Laura. Broadcast locally on 570 KNRS, "Family Values Talk Radio," the former family counselor spends three hours daily taking calls and offering advice on morals, ethics and values. She broadcast a show from Fort Douglas, in Salt Lake City, last week.
Military leaders have long grappled with how to balance positive publicity and operational security with technological opportunities for troops to tell their personal stories.
Under the circumstances, there is nothing wrong with a question including the phrase "gone mad". Get real.

Start with Entertainment Tonight and follow through to its sister shows, everything is about notoriety. If you don’t get the tabloids talking, you don’t exist. We have seen it all– pregnancy with a husband, without a husband, with two husbands– it all sells.

I know nothing about Dr. Laura’s kid; or Dr. Laura for that matter. I have heard her show and she is a bit vitriolic but again– it’s for ratings.

I would be more inclined to think this is AGAIN another manipulation of the innocent public to ‘tune in’ to Dr. Laura.

Forget it until there is a trial.

Interesting ! Has it been proven to be him, or maybe someone pretending to be him? If it is, I wonder how she will explain that one ?

I guess Dr. Laura didn’t teach her son family values.

That’s what happens when you spend all your time working and not raising your kids right?…what a hypocritical b**ch she is.

Since Deryk is in the army, how come the little bastard isn’t in Iraq?

    1. He is innocent until proven guilty.

    2. If he is guilty, the sins of the son should not necessarily fall on the mother.

    3. That said, she herself posed in the nude for a boyfriend and then had to suffer the public consequences when he had them published on the internet in 1998.

    4. How do any of us really know what a scandal like this might have seriously scarred a boy who would have been 13 at the time.

    5. Beverly Hills police found Dr. Laura’s estranged mother dead in her apartment. She had died two months earlier.

    6. The most disturbing quote in the Salt Lake Tribune article to me was the following statement attributed to Dr. Laura in an earlier interview: Laura Schlessinger’s appearance in Utah last week included a visit with Army families at Fort Douglas. In an interview with The Tribune, she said, "We raised our son to be a warrior."

Isn’t that a creepy thing for a person who advocates family morals to say?

    7. Obviously there is something peculiar going on here, but frankly as an advocate for the mentally ill, I am greatly disturbed by the phrasing of your question: "Had Dr. Laura’s son gone mad?"

I don’t know much about Dr. Laura or her son, but I do know that many different people have been impersonated on MySpace, so for me there needs to be a bit more evidence.

Note: One person wondered why Deryk wasn’t in Iraq. My understanding is that he is serving in Afghanistan.
